CASE ALERT: Juul Lawsuits
Our team of attorneys is currently investigating claims that Juul use may be associated with an increased risk of nicotine addiction, mood disorders, permanent lowering of impulse control, lung injuries, seizures, strokes, heart attacks, and cardiovascular injuries.
What We Know About Juul
On June 23, 2022, the FDA issued marketing denial orders to Juul Labs Inc. This means that Juul must stop selling and distributing its products in the US, and all Juul products currently on the market in the US must be removed.
Juul Labs Inc. is headquartered in San Francisco, CA. Juul manufactures: vaporizers, pods, and vaporizer charging docks. A vaporizer is a battery-operated device which can be used to inhale an aerosol, which can contain nicotine, flavorings, or other chemicals. To vape, a user attaches a pod or cartridge filled with a liquid solution to the vaporizer. Puffing activates the heating device, which heats the liquid in the pod, vaporizing it, and emitting a vapor which the user then inhales.
According to the CDC, “E-cigarettes have the potential to benefit adults who smoke and who are not pregnant if used as a complete substitute for regular cigarettes and other smoked tobacco products” but “E-cigarettes are not safe for youth, young adults, pregnant adults, as well as adults who do not currently use tobacco products.”
Juul allegedly intentionally marketed its products to youth. And its campaign seems to have worked; one study found that in 2018, 20% of high schoolers reported using a vaporizer, and 31% of Juul users were youth (aged 12 to 17 years-old).
According to the US Surgeon General, nicotine use—including through vaping—has been associated with the following risks:
- Nicotine addiction
- Mood disorders
- Permanent lowering of impulse control
Studies have also associated vaping with the following injuries:
- Lung injuries
- Seizures
- Strokes
- Heart attacks
- Cardiovascular injuries
